My son Ryan, his wife Amber and my two grandsons, Nicholas and Nathan, are here this week enjoying a respite from their busy work schedules in Bellingham. Yesterday we visited Beebe Springs Interpretive Center along the Columbia River and, since they are wine lovers, we also went to Vin du Lac for a wine tasting. It was a fun day for all.

I have been teaching this class for five years and I learn as much as the students learn

One of the lessons is to take self portraits. Victoria Wright and Johanna Oscarson used my Point and Shoot G2 to take this photo of themselves. The students also learn how to take scenics, wildlife, action and conceptual photos along with basic Photoshop methods.

Recipe Book

It's been awhile since I posted, but I'm working on an exciting new recipe book with a young author in Chelan. The book will have recipes from the area and will include excellent wine pairings.

This image is of a Duck dish prepared by Chef Pam Ahl of Amy's Manor. Talk about delicisious.

A New Start

It's been an awfully long time since I have posted to this blog, but am going to start again. I am setting up a new webpage at photoshelter.com which will carry a lot of my stock photography in galleries. This photography includes images I have shot over the years. The first gallery is called Adventure Sports and has a number of images taken in an around North Central Washington.

These four seniors have been planning on a Friends photo shoot since basketball season and the weather finally got good enough for them to get together with their respective college sweatshirts on for the portrait session. What fun. Enjoy the images.

Well, 2008 is history now. It wasn't a bad year, but 2009 brings more hope for the future than we have had in the past eight years.

To the left is my cross-country skiing and mountain biking buddy, Carmen. This photo was taken on December 27 at the Echo Ridge Nordic Ski Area located seven miles out of Chelan, Wasington. The sun was low in the sky, turning the snow a beautiful pinkish color. It was a beautiful way to finish off our first xc ski excursion of the winter.

Here's hoping for a very prosperous New Year for everyone.

My grandson, A.J., played in his final league football game on Friday, October 31, and I was there to capture the action. He is a linebacker and had 7 tackles, 1 interception and 1 QB sack to help the Meadowdale Mavericks to a 28-21 win over the Everett team which means he will be playing in the post season.

This young man was competing in the ChelanMan Triathlon's Splash and Dash competition and was showing his excitment at finishing the three event race.

Then there is Cohen... He's only 18 months old, but he's already full of energy and spunk.

The last shot is of a young lady I photographed at a family reunion. She need one image for her high school annual. This is the one I liked.

Fall is a beautiful time

Our environment is our most important issue right now and Fall colors can remind us just how important it is to take care of our earth because there is no alternative at this point.

I took a drive through the Tumwater Canyon outside of Leavenworth, Washington last week and just had to stop and take these images. I love Fall and the colors associated with the season.

These leaves retained their color all winter after being frozen beneath a sheet of ice at the bottom of this landscaping waterfall at Latte Da Coffee Shop in Chelan. I shot this with my 80~200 mm F2.8 lens set at 1/45th of a second and F13. Comments are always appreciated.

What little kid hasn't been tempted to do this when it is freezing out. My student in my Digital Photography class was very fortunate that this was wood instead of metal. The kids were out taking photos. I wasn't with them because I never would have let him try this one. Seventh graders can be kinda stupid at times.

It was sunny today despite weather reports that promised snow. I noticed that the Columbia River was very muddy and that the Lake Chelan water entering the Columbia was a clean and blue as it always is, so I went up the hill to take this photograph to show how the flows from the Chelan Powerhouse look as they enter the Columbia.

This is the million dollar view from the Glide House. What a wonderful assignment to have the freedom to take advertising photos without the pressure of having someone looking over your shoulder. I could live with this view.

Went up for a mountain bike ride this afternoon and the bolt that holds my seat on broke, so I had to give it up for the day, but Rick, my riding buddy went ahead and finished the ride. This is a shot of him at the bottom of Bergman Gulch at Echo Valley in Chelan.

An epic mountain bike ride

Each year, my buddy and I try to organize an epic mountain bike ride across the Devil's Backbone and down Pot Peak trail. This is not an easy ride, but almost anyone with some technical riding skills can accomplish the ride.

We hadn't been on this ride for three years because of wildfire that has devasted thousands of acres of Wenatchee National Forest land.

The Devil's Backbone is a spiny ridge line at about 6,500 feet in elevation between the Entiat and Lake Chelan Valleys. From the trailhead, at Handy Springs, it is about 8 miles to the junction of Pot Peak Trail. From that point, riders have covered a lot of rocky territory including a major hike-a-bike across a huge boulder field.

Once on Pot Peak Trail, mountain bikers have 10 miles of pure exhilarating downhill to enjoy. This year the trail itself was in good shape, however there were some logs across it which had to be removed. The Pot Peak Fire devastated the area.

Both Rick and I came out of the seven hour ride bruised and bleeding a little.

The Devil's Backbone is a narrow spine ridge in the Chelan Mountains. Because of the Deep Harbor Fire several years ago, the area has been burnt over pretty good.

In the open. Chelan played some excellent football despite their loss 21-6 loss to the Cascade Kodiaks. Chelan knocked on the door on three occasions and should have punched through, but some mistakes and turnovers cost them dearly in Friday's contest.

Had two jobs this past Labor Day weekend. The first was a family portrait of a Redmond couple and their family at the Willows. They own a second home in Chelan.

The next shoot was a Sunday afternoon/evening wedding at Beecher House in Peshastin. I love these casual, small, intimate weddings, especially when I've known one of them for years. It was a fun wedding and I enjoyed it immensely.
